For most people, searching for your “first job” or even a “new job” can be a depressing experience spending hours perfecting an application, sending out hundreds of resumes and waiting around for weeks on end, only to receive a polite “thank you, but no thanks” or receiving no response at all!
Constant rejection will make even the most positive person begin to believe they are not worthy of a job and it will affect their self esteem. This is soul-destroying!
I have worked in many recruitment organisations. Although it was rewarding placing a candidate in a job, I would often sit and wonder about my other clients who were persistent and desired a job but were simply deemed unemployable for various reasons- because they were overqualified, under-qualified, not the right or best fit, etc.
I received hundreds of job applications daily. Some were great; however, the majority was poorly designed with spelling errors, mismatched font and poorly constructed sentences.
What do you think happens to these resumes and cover letters?? That’s right- they go straight to the nearest bin! (or they get put into the mysterious candidate database).
Some candidates could have had all the potential and skills necessary for the job and because they lacked the ability to sell themselves, these individuals often remained unemployed for long periods of time or they ended up accepting any job that would allow them to earn a living. This caused confusion for many recruiters who failed to understand why if a person was “so good” they were unemployed or in the wrong job!
For those few who did manage to get an interview, they lacked the skills to answer questions appropriately or in some cases were dressed poorly, had bad odour, an 80’s suit, unpolished shoes, sweaty palms, poor body language, etc.
That’s when I decided it was about time that someone stood up for candidates. I was fed up with saying no to “good” people, and being prevented to waste resources on people who needed more customised guidance.
I started this company because of my desire to help people achieve their dreams. I believe:
- Everyone has the right to live the life they want to live
- Everyone deserves a second chance to redeem themselves
So unlike recruitment agencies, Australian Career Insight is about helping individuals create resumes that don’t end up in the bin, cover letters that highlight a person’s individuality, interview skills that say they are a great investment and body language that says he / she is a great team player!
I’ve personally challenged myself to ensure the work I do remains as true to what I know about recruitment, job-hunting and the way people should present themselves to others and my main goal is to ensure that the advice I give is advice I would want myself.
